Your eyes help you see everything around you, from faces and colors to letters and tiny details. Inside each eye, there are small parts that work together in harmony so that you can see clearly.
The human eye consists of the following main parts:
-The cornea: the clear front part of the eye that allows light to enter the front of the eye.
-The iris: the colored part of the eye that controls the size of the pupil.
-The pupil: a black opening in the center of the eye that allows light to enter.
-The lens: a convex-shaped structure located behind the pupil that focuses light onto the retina.
-The retina: the layer at the back of the eye containing special cells that capture light and convert it into signals the brain can understand.
-The optic nerve: transmits these signals to the brain so they can be converted into a comprehensible image.
-Eyelids and tears: protect the eye from dryness and dirt and help keep it moist and clean.

How Do We See Things?
The entire process of vision occurs within tiny fractions of a single second:
-Light rays reflected from objects pass through the cornea and pupil and then to the lens of the eye.
-The convex lens bends the light rays and focuses them on the retina, where the image of objects falls on the retina upside down.
-After the retina captures the image, it sends it as electrical signals to the brain through the optic nerve.
-The brain analyzes the signals and converts them into a comprehensible image.

Common Vision Problems
Common vision problems can be corrected using glasses or contact lenses, and sometimes through surgery or specialized laser devices:
-Nearsightedness (myopia): you see nearby objects clearly but distant ones appear blurry.
-Farsightedness (hyperopia): you see distant objects clearly but nearby ones appear unclear.
-Astigmatism: occurs when the cornea is irregularly shaped, leading to distorted vision.
To maintain healthy eyesight and protect our eyes, we should visit an eye doctor if:
-You experience blurry vision, frequent headaches, or difficulty reading.
-You wear glasses or lenses — you should have a checkup approximately once a year.
